Elmore is a town in Elmore County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 199. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Elmore is located at (32.542314, -86.315455)[1].

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), of which, 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (4.35%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 199 people, 77 households, and 55 families residing in the town. The population density was 302.9 people per square mile (116.4/km2). There were 88 housing units at an average density of 134.0 per square mile (51.5/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 67.84% White, 27.64% Black or African American, 1.51% Native American, 2.01% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 1.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 77 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were married couples living together, 18.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 23.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.07.

In the town the population was spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $29,792, and the median income for a family was $32,500. Males had a median income of $30,179 versus $23,333 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,533. About 11.7% of families and 20.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 31.0% of those sixty five or over.
